About Me...

My passion for journalism began in 2022, when I joined the publication as a freshman staff reporter. Although I was always strongly drawn to storytelling since I joined the Academy, the opportunity to be in a journalism class wasn't yet available till freshman year. From my first couple of months, every spare moment I had was dedicated to telling stories–contributing in any way I was asked, even spending lunches in the newsroom, while creating a video production club, so I would be able to give others a voice outside of school hours as well.
Since starting as a staff reporter, I've gradually gotten more responsibilities in the roles I've had; from Staff Reporter, to Features Editor, to now Editor-In-Chief. In each role I've been given at Ka Leo, I have worked to be a voice for our community: teachers, students, and administration, while highlighting the incredible achievements and stories that often don't have enough attention. From breaking news articles to profiles on the hard work of others in our community, I strive to tell their stories with care, accuracy, and responsibility.
Looking ahead, I hope to inspire younger journalists at Sacred Hearts Academy and eventually serve as a mentor to them. This year, many of the students on my publication staff are new to journalism, so watching them develop their voice and confidence has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve also witnessed Ka Leo evolve into a new era, from a publication once on a nine-year losing streak and eager to prove itself to now earning first place for three consecutive years. It has shown me that with focus, dedication, and love, success can grow. I hope to carry that same passion with me wherever I go and to represent Sacred Hearts Academy with pride in every step forward.
