Bonus: Marketing and Audience Engagement

After my experience at the Vogue Fashion Summer School in New York City, I learned much about fashion branding, marketing, and the business of style. The coursework we learned includes brand strategy, consumer behavior, trend forecasting, and insights from Condé Nast editors and industry professionals. Thus, coming back to Ka Leo after the summer, I was much more interested in learning about how we at Ka Leo market our website and engage with our audience.

Ka Leo Instagram Captions

One way Ka Leo boosts audience reach is by using Instagram captions and hashtags. By using general hashtags such as “#studentjournalism”, “studentmedia”, and “#readallaboutit”, we get shown to a much wider audience of people outside of our community, and even outside of Hawai’i.

Ka Leo Instagram Consistency

In Ka Leo instagram posts, we make sure to keep consistency throughout our posts, which maintains a cohesive tone and message throughout. An example of the consistency on our Instagram, where majority of our posts, specifically all the posts announcing a new article on the Ka Leo website, uses the same template that includes a “Ka Leo” at the very top, the category of article in the middle section, and the title of the article at the bottom with “Read More: kaleo.sacredhearts.org.” 

Likes and Comments on the Ka Leo Website

For the Ka Leo website, Likes and comments are used on the Ka Leo website on every article, so we can find out what topics resonate with the audience most. This feedback helps identify readers' interests, engagement, and makes more informed decisions going forward.
